Scientists to chase solar eclipse using NASA jets
WASHINGTON: In a first, scientists are planning to chase the shadow of the Moon using NASA's research jets during the upcoming total solar eclipse in the US, in order to capture the clearest ever images of the Sun's outer atmosphere.Amir Caspi of the Southwest Research Institute in the US and his team will use two of NASA's WB-57F research jets to follow the darkness across the US on August 21.Taking observations from twin telescopes mounted on the noses of the planes, Caspi will capture the clearest images of the Sun's corona to date and the first-ever thermal images of Mercury, revealing how temperature varies across the planet's surface."These could well turn out to be the best ever observations of high frequency phenomena in the corona," said Dan Seaton, researcher at University of Colorado in the US.The total solar eclipse provides a rare opportunity for scientists to study the Sun, particularly its atmosphere. As the Moon completely covers the Sun and perfectly blocks its light during an eclipse, the typically faint corona is easily seen against the dark sky.During the upcoming total solar eclipse, scientists will observe the solar corona using stabilised telescopes aboard the WB-57F research aircraft. This vantage point provides distinct advantages over ground-based observations, researchers said. The corona is heated to millions of degrees, yet the lower atmospheric layers like the photosphere - the visible surface of the Sun - are only heated to a few thousand degrees. Scientists are not sure how this inversion happens. One theory proposes micro explosions, termed nanoflares - too small and frequent to detect individually, but with a large collective effect - might release heat into the corona. No one has yet directly seen nanoflares, but the high- resolution and high-speed images to be taken from the WB-57F jets might reveal their effects on the corona. The high-definition pictures, captured 30 times per second, will be analysed for wave motion in the corona to see if waves move towards or away from the surface of the Sun, and with what strengths and sizes. The two planes, launching from Ellington Field near NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston will observe the total eclipse for about three and a half minutes each.By flying high in the stratosphere, observations taken with onboard telescopes will avoid looking through the majority of Earth's atmosphere, greatly improving image quality. At the planes' cruising altitude of 50,000 feet, the sky is 20-30 times darker than as seen from the ground, and there is much less atmospheric turbulence, allowing fine structures and motions in the Sun's corona to be visible.Observations of Mercury will also be taken a half-hour before and after totality, when the sky is still relatively dark. These images, taken in the infrared, will be the first attempt to map the variation of temperature across the surface of the planet.

SCIENCE NEWS (Money can actually ‘buy’ you happiness)

Money can actually ‘buy’ you happiness
Money can buy you happiness, it would appear. Or, at least, money can buy you extra free time and that may make you happier, according to a new study. The research suggests that, instead of engaging in "retail therapy" in an attempt to feel better, people with enough money should spend it on paying someone else to do chores, such as cleaning, cooking, mowing the lawn, household maintenance or even shopping. One of the researchers, Professor Elizabeth Dunn, said: "Although buying time can serve as a buffer against the time pressures of daily life, few people are doing it even when they can afford it."Lots of research has shown that people benefit from buying their way into pleasant experiences, but our research suggests people should also consider buying their way out of unpleasant experiences." She added that the benefits of that extra time "aren't just for wealthy people"."We thought the effects might only hold up for people with quite a bit of disposable income, but to our surprise, we found the same effects across the income spectrum," said Dunn, of British Columbia University in Canada. The researchers surveyed more than 6,200 people in the US, Canada, Denmark and The Netherlands, asking them how they felt and how much they spent on time-saving services."Across samples, there was a significant interaction between time-saving purchases and time stress," they wrote in the journal 'Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences'. "Deconstructing this interaction, time stress was associated with lower life satisfaction among respondents who did not spend money on time-saving purchases."For respondents who spent money on time-saving purchases, the negative effect of time pressure on life satisfaction was not significant."As part of the study, the researchers also gave $40 (approx. Rs 2,000) to 60 people in Vancouver to spend on a material purchase on one weekend and a time-saving service on another weekend. They found people were happier in the latter case. However the survey found that many people did not seem to want to buy time-saving services even when they could easily afford them. Of some 818 Dutch millionaires included in the survey, nearly half said they "spent no money outsourcing disliked tasks"."In recent decades, incomes have risen in many countries, potentially exacerbating a new form of poverty: from Germany to Korea to the US, people with higher incomes report greater time scarcity," the paper said."Feelings of time stress are in turn linked to lower well-being, including reduced happiness, increased anxiety, and insomnia... In theory, rising incomes could offer a way out of the 'time famine' of modern life, because wealth offers the opportunity to have more free time, such as by paying more to live closer to work."

TECHNICAL NEWS (China set to launch an 'unhackable' internet communication)

China set to launch an 'unhackable' internet communication
The technology it has turned to is quantum cryptography, a radical break from the traditional encryption methods around. The Chinese project in the city of Jinan has been touted as a milestone by state media.

The pioneering project is also part of a bigger story: China is taking the lead in a technology in which the West has long been hesitant to invest.

In the Jinan network, some 200 users from the military, government, finance and electricity sectors will be able to send messages safe in the knowledge that only they are reading them.

China's push in quantum communication means the country is taking huge strides developing applications that might make the increasingly vulnerable internet more secure. Applications that other countries soon might find themselves buying from China.

So, what is this technology into which the country is pouring massive resources?
'Unhackable' communication

If you send a message you want to keep secure from eavesdroppers, traditional encryption works by hiding the key needed to read the message in a very difficult mathematical problem.

But what is "difficult" in terms of maths? It means you have to think really fast to figure it out as you try endless combinations of long, numeric keys. In 2017, that means you need to use a very powerful computer.

    Cyber-offenders put through rehab camp
Cash machine hacked in five minutes
Staging security at the National Theatre
The mindset you need to avoid cyber-crime

Steady improvements in computer power mean that the number-based keys have to be lengthened periodically. Encryption has a shelf life and is rapidly becoming more vulnerable.

There are also fears that the development of quantum computers, which effectively represent a massive step change in number crunching ability, will render much of modern encryption software vulnerable.

Quantum communication works differently:

If you want to send your secure message, you first separately send a key embedded in particles of light
Only then doyou send your encrypted message and the receiver will be able to read it with the help of the key sent beforehand

The crucial advantage of this so-called quantum key distribution is that if anyone tries to intercept the light particles, they necessarily alter or destroy them.

What this means is that any attempt at hacking will immediately be noticed by the original sender and the intended receiver - hence its description as "unhackable".
Leaving the West behind

If quantum communication can help to secure online communications, why is China so far ahead?

"For a long time people simply didn't think it was needed," says Prof Myungshik Kim of Imperial College, London, adding that it was not clear whether there was a commercial market for this technology.

"The mathematical difficulty of the current coding system was so high that it was not thought necessary to implement the new technology," he says.

The research itself is not new and China does not have an edge over the competition. Where it does have an advantage is when it comes to applications.

"Europe has simply missed the boat," says Prof Anton Zeilinger, a quantum physicist at Vienna University in Austria and a pioneer in the field.

He says he tried to convince the EU as early as 2004 to fund more quantum-based projects but it had little effect.

"Europe has been dragging its feet and this has hindered us from being able to compete," he says.

There are quantum key-based networks operating in the US and Europe but most are being carried out as research projects, rather than with commercial partners.
Creating a market

One problem is that it is expensive to build applications like the Jinan network. And if there is not yet a commercial market, it is hard to get investors or governments as backers.

"We have to admit that when China invests into something, they have the financial power and manpower that is beyond probably anything else in the world except the US military," says Valerio Scarani, a physicist with Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore.

The Jinan network is not the only quantum communication application China has developed.

Image caption China's quantum satellite was launched from the Gobi Desert

Last year, it launched a satellite equipped to test quantum communication over large distances that cannot be bridged by cables. There has also been a link established between the country's two main hubs, Beijing and Shanghai, so both ends can communicate and know when others are listening in.

So while it might not be clear yet whether quantum communication will indeed be the one technology to replace traditional encryption, it is widely considered as one of the leading candidates.

And China, in turn, is the leading country when it comes to building and experimenting with real applications of it.

"It's a situation where the technology can create its market," says Prof Zeilinger.

Once the technology is sold by Chinese companies, international banks might well be the first lining up as customers.

SCIENCE NEWS (Human antibodies produced in lab for first time)

Human antibodies produced in lab for first time
BOSTON: In a first, scientists have produced human antibodies in the laboratory using a technique that could usher the rapid development of new vaccines to treat a wide range of infectious diseases.Antibodies are produced by the body's B cells to fight off infections by bacteria, viruses, and other invasive pathogens. When an individual B cell recognises a specific pathogen-derived "antigen" molecule, it can proliferate and develop into plasma cells that secrete large amounts of antibody capable of binding to the antigen and fending off the infection.Researchers, including those from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, wanted to replicate this process in the laboratory to produce specific antibodies from B cells isolated from patient blood samples regulation ordinanceHowever, in addition to encountering a specific antigen, B cells need a second signal to start proliferating and developing into plasma cells. This second signal can be provided by short DNA fragments called CpG oligonucleotides, which activate a protein inside B cells named TLR9.However, treating patient-derived B cells with CpG oligonucleotides stimulates every B cell in the sample, not just the tiny fraction capable of producing a particular antibody.Researchers, led by Facundo Batista from the Francis Crick Institute in the UK, produced specific human antibodies in the laboratory by treating patient-derived B cells with tiny nanoparticles coated with both CpG oligonucleotides and an antigen. With this technique, CpG oligonucleotides are only internalised into B cells that recognise the specific antigen, and these cells are therefore the only ones in which TLR9 is activated to induce their proliferation and development into antibody-secreting plasma cells. The team successfully demonstrated their approach using various bacterial and viral antigens, including the tetanus toxoid and proteins from several strains of influenza A.In each case, the researchers were able to produce specific, high-affinity antibodies in just a few days. Some of the anti-influenza antibodies generated by the technique recognised multiple strains of the virus and were able to neutralise its ability to infect cells. The procedure does not depend on the donors having been previously exposed to any of these antigens through vaccination or infection.Researchers were able to generate anti-HIV antibodies from B cells isolated from HIV-free patients. They hope that their approach will help researchers rapidly generate therapeutic antibodies for the treatment of infectious diseases and other conditions such as cancer."Specifically, it should allow the production of these antibodies within a shorter time frame in vitro and without the need for vaccination or blood/serum donation from recently infected or vaccinated individuals," Batista said."Our method offers the potential to accelerate the development of new vaccines by allowing the efficient evaluation of candidate target antigens," he said. The research was published in The Journal of Experimental Medicine

Living healthily, learning more could cut dementia cases by a third
LONDON: Learning new things, eating and drinking well, not smoking and limiting hearing loss and loneliness could prevent a third of dementia cases, health experts said today. In a wide-ranging analysis of the risk factors behind dementia, the researchers highlighted nine as particularly important. These included staying in education beyond age 15, reducing high blood pressure, obesity and hearing loss in mid-life, and reducing smoking, depression, physical inactivity, social isolation and diabetes in later life.If all these risk factors were fully eliminated, the experts said, one in three cases of dementia worldwide could be prevented.ll introduced to replace Banking regulation ordinance"Although dementia is diagnosed in later life, the brain changes usually begin to develop years before," said Gill Livingston, a professor at University College London and one of 24 international experts commissioned by The Lancet medical journal to conduct the analysis."A broader approach to prevention of dementia which reflects these changing risk factors will benefit our ageing societies and help to prevent the rising number of dementia cases."Latest estimates from the Alzheimer's Association International show there are around 47 million people living with dementia globally and the cost of the brain-wasting diseases already $818 billion a year.Dementia is caused by brain diseases, most commonly Alzheimer's disease, which result in the loss of brain cells and affect memory, thinking, behaviour, navigational and spatial abilities and the ability to perform everyday activities. The number of people affected is set to almost triple to 131 million by 2050, according to the World Health Organization. The researchers found that among the 35 percent of all dementia cases that could be prevented, the three most important risk factors to target were increasing early life education, reducing mid-life hearing loss, and stopping smoking. Not completing secondary education while young can make people less resilient to cognitive decline when they get older, the experts said, while preserving hearing helps people experience a richer and more stimulating environment, building cognitive reserve.Stopping smoking reduces exposure to neurotoxins and improves heart health which, in turn, affects brain health, they said.

SCIENCE NEWS (New ways to see star formation in Milky Way developed)

New ways to see star formation in Milky Way developed
WASHINGTON: Scientists have discovered new evidence of stars forming in our Milky Way galaxy, by using a telescope equipped to detect infrared light invisible to our eyes. The "exciting" finding reveals how stars, including our Sun, grow up within clusters and groups, researchers said. The team led by Grace Wolf-Chase, astronomer at Adler Planetarium in the US, found huge gas clouds moving outward from areas where "baby" stars are forming, using a new way of disentangling these outflows from other processes in densely-populated stellar nurseries. These stellar nurseries can produce dozens or even hundreds of stars with different sizes and masses.YOU adbutt"The Sun, though isolated from other stars today, is thought to have formed in a cluster with many other stars, so the environments we are studying can tell us a lot about the origin of our own solar system," said Wolf-Chase.Stars form when cold, rotating clouds of gas and dust in space are pulled together by gravity into flattened "disks" that spin faster as they shrink, similar to what happens when twirling figure skaters pull their outstretched arms in towards their bodies. In order for a star to form at the centere of a spinning disk, the rotation of the disk must slow down. This happens through powerful outflows of gas that are channeled into tight streams, known as "jets."Jets can span more than 10 trillion miles, even though the disks that launch them are "mere" billions of miles across (comparable to the size of our solar system).Since planets can form in the disks, the presence of a jet can be a good indicator of a nascent planetary system, even when the disk is not observed directly, researchers said.Stars more than eight times as massive as the Sun bathe their surroundings in intense ultraviolet radiation that destroys their natal clouds quickly, so it is not clear if these massive stars develop disks and jets similar to stars like the Sun.The researchers used an instrument called NICFPS (Near- Infrared Camera and Fabry-Perot Spectrometer) on the Astrophysical Research Consortium (ARC) 3.5-metre telescope at the Apache Point Observatory (APO) in New Mexico.NICFPS peered into 26 dusty clouds thought to be forming clusters containing massive stars.Using a combination of infrared filters that allowed them to distinguish jets from infant stars from other types of light produced by the radiation in these massive stellar nurseries, they identified 36 jets across 22 of the regions. The results published in the Astrophysical Journal provide compelling evidence that, like their lower-mass siblings, massive stars also launch powerful jets. The jet shuts off shortly after radiation from the massive star begins to disrupt its environment.

New 3D-printed water sensor may prevent waterborne illnesses
TORONTO: Scientists have designed a tiny, cost-effective sensor - built by using a 3D printer - that can monitor drinking water quality in real time and help protect against waterborne illnesses such as E coli infections. These sensors are reliable and sturdy enough to provide accurate readings regardless of water pressure or temperature, researchers said. The wireless sensors that report back to the testing stations, work independently, meaning that if one stops working, it does not bring down the whole system. And since they are made by using 3D printers, they are fast, inexpensive and easy to produce, researchers said. India's electric car ride"This highly portable sensor system is capable of constantly measuring several water quality parameters such as turbidity, pH, conductivity, temperature and residual chlorine and sending the data to a central system wirelessly," said Mina Hoorfar from University of British Columbia in Canada. The new miniaturised water quality sensors are cheap to make and can operate continuously and can be deployed anywhere in the water distribution system, Hoorfar said.Current water safety practice involves only periodic hand testing, which limits sampling frequency and leads to a higher probably of disease outbreak, Hoorfar said. While many urban purification plants have real-time monitoring sensors, they are upstream of the distribution system.Researchers note that the pressure at which water is supplied to the customer is much higher than what most sensors can tolerate. But the new sensors can be placed right at or within a customer's home, providing a direct and precise layer of protection against unsafe water. The study was published in the journal Sensors

SCIENCE NEWS (HIV fight advances with new drug cocktails, fresh vaccine hopes)

HIV fight advances with new drug cocktails, fresh vaccine hopes
LONDON: Three decades after approval of the first-ever AIDS treatment, HIV medicine is seeing a new wave of innovation with scientists reporting positive data on Monday for improved drug cocktails and a novel experimental vaccine.Adding to optimism is the success of antiretrovirals in preventing infection - an approach known as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) - as well as growing hopes for an eventual "functional" cure that may keep the virus at bay without drugs.Researchers believe such advances are necessary to stay ahead of a virus that can all too often develop resistance to medicines, despite the use since 1996 of three- or four-drug combinations that mean HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence."New products are needed. The Achilles heel for us is drug resistance because the virus is incredibly quick to mutate," Linda-Gail Bekker, deputy director of the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre in South Africffect, admits CEOBekker is also president of the International AIDS Society, which organised the conference in Paris where the latest clinical results were presented. The race for better and more convenient medicines has made HIV a rich battleground for drug companies such as Gilead Sciences and GlaxoSmithKline, which generate billions of dollars from modern therapies. Both companies garnered fresh ammunition to boost their products in Paris.New clinical data confirmed Gilead's new drug bictegravir, given with older antiretrovirals, was as good as GSK's established dolutegravir and had a similar side effect profile. Gilead filed the new cocktail for regulatory approval in June. Both bictegravir and dolutegravir are so-called integrase inhibitors, a type of medicine that has proved extremely effective at blocking HIV.GSK, meanwhile, unveiled results of a 96-week study with a long-acting two-drug injection given every four or eight weeks using another integrase inhibitor, cabotegravir, that showed it worked as well - and perhaps better - than standard daily pills. For GSK, two-drug cocktails represent the future of HIV treatment, especially for the growing number of older patients who are more vulnerable to side effects from taking multiple medicines. It hopes to win approval for its first dual therapy - a tablet containing dolutegravir - later this year.GSK's long-acting injection is further off but it offers an option for people who don't want daily pills, which some experts think might be 10 to 20 percent of the market. GSK also faces a rival in Merck & Co, which is working on an even longer-lasting drug that could one day be used as an implant.David Redfern, chairman of GSK's majority-owned ViiV Healthcare HIV business, believes one thing is clear: competition is set to intensify."The battle will play through from next year, but we feel in a strong position to defend the franchise that we have built up," he told Reuters.Gilead's clinical research head Andrew Cheng said the rival combinations were very comparable and there would now be a shift in treatment to the newer, more effective therapies.VACCINE NEEDEDUltimately, many experts believe a vaccine will be needed to shut down the threat from HIV, although decades of efforts to develop one have so far ended in disappointment.Scientists are not giving up, however, and a new approach pioneered by Johnson & Johnson, working with U.S. government experts and others, is set to enter large Phase IIb trials later this year. The decision to push ahead with a so-called prime-boost vaccine in a trial involving thousands of patients in Africa comes after promising data presented in Paris on Monday, showing the two-component shot generated a good immune response. It also follows another large-scale trial already underway in Africa, which uses a modified version of a vaccine that showed a modest 31 percent reduction in infections in Thailand in 2009.In both cases, researchers are looking for reductions in infection rates of at least 50 percent, and hopefully more. With 36.7 million people around the world infected with HIV and more than half of them getting treatment that is expected to last for life, J&J Chief Scientific Officer Paul Stoffels sees parallel advances in drugs and vaccines as essential."We should not claim victory yet in HIV," he said. "The people who are infected today will need therapy for the next 30 to 50 years, so the science of treatment has to evolve - and the science of prevention has to evolve as well to stop the pool of patients growing."

ANDROID TIPS (What is Wifi?)

What is Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi or Wireless Fidelity is an independent network that allows you to enter the network (area based or world wide web internet network) wirelessly at home, at the hotel room, conference room, wireless. How is it possible? This Wi-Fi is a wireless technology that works like a cellphone. Wi-Fi is capable of accelerating the data transmission of your computer at any point of the base station, in comparison to the speedy cable modem. If your computer is configured with a Wi-Fi certified radio (a PC card or similar device) it will be able to establish an actual independent connection anywhere. Wi-Fi certification means the home, office or corporate campus or airport, hotel, or hotel, via Wi-Fi certified products, Available in the World Wide Web Connection anywhere in coffee shop and other public areas You can check your e-mail from your laptop or watch the information you need, where Wi-Fi lets you sit anywhere at home. You can be connected to the office network from the airport or coffee shop-it is unimaginable! Even in corporate networks, viewing, presenting, browsing the Internet, sending instant messaging to colleagues, and doing all this can be a conference room or company cafeteria. And it can be done as easy and speedily as possible by the use of this wireless technology. This is Wi-Fi, Wireless Technology. Without your entire office transfer, Networking can be connected to Wi-Fi technology without the need to invest even without any extra fees. You can use Wi-Fi to access Wi-Fi from anywhere in the world. Home Wi-Fi networks can connect to multiple computers on one another. A Wi-Fi network shares its family computer, such as hardware, software resources, printers and internet. This means that anyone in the family files, photos, Without any cable connection the document and print share. By using Wi-Fi certified equipment at home or home office, this wireless network gives you the ability to share high-speed broadband internet. Ten or more computers can be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi networks are able to receive signal reception with each other according to the specific frequency of the radio band capable of doing Wi-Fi networks. This component connects directly to each other (called peer-to-peer) through a gateway or access point. Wi-Fi radio is connected to your network on this network, Laptops and mobile devices. Accesspoint or gateway works as a base station. It signals send or receives various components from Wi-Fi radio to connect with each other on the Internet. All computer resources share or exchange files on Wi-Fi network via a single Internet connection. A pair of peer-to-peer networks or a base station (an access point or gateway) can be connected without a base station, including a pair-to-peer network Wi-Fi device. All types of Wi-Fi certification equipment support this kind of wireless setup, which can be important for data transfer between computers or share internet connection between some computers in a room. If you think of a limited budget, then pair-to-pair wireless networks can provide good solutions. And this easily Can share internet. Laptop, What are the Wi-Fi radio options laptops for desktops and PDAs? Many laptop commutators and mobile computing devices have Wi-Fi radio built-in. And they are ready for wireless operation. Again many laptops have Wi-Fi radio embedded which are connected via a PC card. This network is connected to desktop computers in different ways. In most cases the PC does not offer slots for the card. The simplest method is the USB device. Plug in this USB port for desktop computer. Theoretically, if 10 users use this network at the same time, then every user gets 1 Mbps or similar speed. Network shares are not very easy. Because, it depends on the behavior or behavior of the user depending on the behavior. This access point depends on how many users are connected to the network and how they work on the network,

SCIENCE NEWS (NASA invites citizen scientists to explore solar eclipse)

NASA invites citizen scientists to explore solar eclipse
NEW YORK: NASA has invited citizen scientists to participate in a nationwide science experiment by collecting cloud and air temperature data and reporting it via their phones during the total solar eclipse that will occur on August 21 and pass through the US.

NASA's Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Programme Observer (NASA GO) is a citizen science project that allows users to record observations with a free app.

Using the free app and a thermometer, citizen scientists can observe how the eclipse changes atmospheric conditions near them, and contribute to a database used by students and scientists worldwide in order to study the effects of the eclipse on the atmosphere.
"No matter where you are in North America, whether it's cloudy, clear or rainy, NASA wants as many people as possible to help with this citizen science project," Kristen Weaver, deputy coordinator for the project, said in a statement on Friday.

"We want to inspire a million eclipse viewers to become eclipse scientists," Weaver added.

Observers in areas with a partial eclipse or outside the path of totality are encouraged to participate alongside those within totality.

Crossing the country from Oregon to South Carolina over the course of an hour and a half, 14 states will experience night-like darkness for approximately two minutes in the middle of the day.

The eclipse enters the US at 10.15 a.m. off the coast of Oregon and leaves US shores at approximately 2.50 p.m. in South Carolina.

All of North America will experience at least a partial eclipse.

In order to participate, one needs to first download the GLOBE Observer app and then register to become a citizen scientist.

The app will instruct to make the observations, which will be recorded on an interactive map. A thermometer may help to measure the air temperature, the statement said.

KOLKATA: While the word "biopsy" is enough to send patients into a tizzy, oncologists say it is crucial to correctly identify the cancer stage and "faster growing" ones for appropriate and timely treatment. And to ensure accuracy, researchers in India are now turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI).

A team of experts from IIT-Kharagpur (IIT-Kgp) and Tata Medical Centre (TMC), Kolkata, has devised a computer-assisted model they say can automatically grade breast cancer aggressiveness, even in remote settings, providing fresh impetus to AI-based medical technology in India.

It also seeks to reduce human error in identifying breast cancer of various levels of aggressiveness to assist in distinguishing normal and low and higher risk malignant tumours.
To do that, the team tapped into deep learning, a form of AI concerned with algorithms inspired by the structure and function of the brain called artificial neural networks.

"The idea is to assess and identify the cancer that's of high risk. This software allows accurate identification of the aggressive cancers anywhere, even in the remotest part of the country, allowing faster referral and quicker treatment for patients, irrespective of their geographical location," Sanjoy Chatterjee, senior clinical oncologist at TMC, told IANS.

Chandan Chakraborty and Monjoy Saha of IIT-Kgp and TMC's Indu Arun and Rosina Ahmed are the co-authors of the study, published in Nature Scientific Reports in June.

They were driven by the fact that the precise grouping of aggressiveness (high or low rates of cell growth) of breast cancer remains a challenge at a time when the disease is the top cancer in women worldwide and is increasing, particularly in developing countries like India, where the majority of cases are diagnosed in their late stages.

"For best results, it is always desirable to have experienced pathologists in sophisticated laboratories, but it is also important that we recognise that this is not always feasible, especially outside large urban hospitals," Ahmed pointed out.

The clinical decision on breast cancer aggressiveness is mostly made manually based on certain pathological markers as seen in examining a tissue or cell sample under a microscope (called biopsy), they said.

"The manual assessment is subjective, and could be error-prone with a steep learning curve and dependent on the intra and inter-observer ambiguities. The AI algorithm aids pathologists to identify aggressive forms accurately to allow quicker and faster referral and suitable treatment," said Chakraborty, lead researcher and professor-in-charge of the Biomedical Imaging Informatics (BMI) Laboratory, School of Medical Science & Technology, IIT-Kgp.

The software showed over 90 per cent precision in the experimental set-up, he added.

The application revolves around a protein (or marker) called Ki-67 which is used to calculate an index that groups cancers in the "low" or "high" aggressiveness groups.

The Ki-67 globally-approved index is used to help predict outcome (prognosis) and help figure out what treatment might work best, they say. It is increasingly being used by doctors to reflect cancer behaviour.

"The proposed computerised recognition can precisely measure the Ki-67 score by detection of the faster-growing cancer cell percentage, called hotspots, from the biopsy tissue images.

"The software has been standardised. As soon as the pathologists get the biopsy, all they have to do is make a section, grab an image and put in the computer," Chatterjee explained.

"To get the job done faster, a basic set up requires a GPU (graphical processing unit) to compute the images.

"There is no need for expensive infrastructure. Moreover, in the rural and urban areas with minimum or few advanced instrumentation, manual inspection of Ki-67 scoring may provide results which are error-prone," Saha, research scholar, School of Medical Science and Technology, IIT-Kgp, told IANS.

The study notes: "Several machine learning approaches have been reported; nevertheless, none of them had worked on deep learning-based hotspots detection and proliferation scoring."

"The next phase of the study is validation. The clinicians and the pathologists are going to recruit patients and we will treat them depending on what the pathologists say. We will tally the results from the software as well as from the pathologists, so the discordant rates are pretty low. Then we can release the process for clinical use," added Chatterjee.

Rs 11 crore levied as 'superfast' surcharge, but trains delayed up to 95% of times
According to the Railway Board, trains with average speed of 55 kmph or more come under the category of superfast trains.A study of data on punctuality of superfast trains from 2013-14 to 2015-16 in NCR and SCR, however, revealed that such trains reached the destination late between 13.48% and 95.17% of the days on which they ran. In total, 21 superfast trains were delayed on 3,000 days out of 16,804 days because they failed to attain the 'superfast' speed. At present, there is no rule or policy to refund money if a train is delayed. Only when a person files a ticket deposit against reservation (TDR) against a train delayed for more than three hours is a refund possible.According to the railways, 'superfast' surcharges vary for different class of coaches. For example, it is Rs 15 for general coaches, Rs 30 for sleeper, Rs 45 for AC (chair car, AC-3 economy, AC-3, AC-2 classes) and Rs 75 for AC First/Executive class which were effective from April 1, 2013.Agra divisional commercial manager Sanchit Tyagi said, "There are scores of factors which lead to trains not achieving their superfast speed, thus causing delays. Some the prominent factors are the maintenance of tracks, signal glitches, emergency brakes and accidents which contribute in the late operations of railways."Asked if the railways should not be returning passengers the so-called 'superfast' surcharges in such cases, Tyagi said, "There are no such rules or policy to refund money if a train is delayed, but when a passenger files a TDR (ticket deposit against reservation) against a train delayed for than three hours, then a refund is possible."The study on the movement of some of the superfast trains between 2013 and 2016 revealed that Kolkata-Agra Cantt Superfast (SF in railway jargon) was late 138 days out of 145. Similarly, Jaipur-Allahabad SF was late 68.34% out of 578 days of operations between 2014 and 2016. Lucknow-Agra Cantt SF was late 58.99% out of 851 days, Chhatrapati Shivaji- Hyderabad SF was late on 682 days out of 1,055, Guntur-Secundrabad SF was late 41.33% out of 1,096 days. The least delayed train among 21 selected was Kathgodam-Kanpur SF, which reported 13.48% late out of 141 days.

Netaji escaped after arrest in 1945, says historian
The summary of the Information of the Intelligence Service of Saigon (Saigon Control Commission, Secret) written to the Supreme Allied Commander of Southeast Asia on 26 September 1945, which More found in the National Archives of France, says, "Seven Indians of whom three are big personalities of the Indian Independence League (IIL) and members of the Hikari Kikan have been arrested for interrogation." According to More, the arrests were made in August after the defeat of Japan.
"Four others were local league leaders, of whom I know two by name. I have a strong feeling that of the three IIL personalities arrested, one was Subhas Chandra Bose himself," said More.More went on to connect the dots between the 1945 document and the 1947 secret service report. "Now, connecting this document of 26 September 1945, with the secret service report of 11 December 1947, it suggests that Bose was in the custody of the French or English from August 1945 as a war criminal," said More, who teaches at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Economiques et Commerciales, Paris.

But two years later, in December 1947, the report says that he had escaped. "The term 'evade' has been used to signify 'escape'. But in French, this term has a special meaning. An evade is somebody who was arrested already or in custody before he escaped. There can be no escape without being arrested or caught," said More. "So Bose was arrested in August 1945 and was kept in custody. If we are to believe the secret report of 1947, he escaped altogether from Indochina," said More.

Besides, it is also reported in the 26 September 1945 document that 'marchandises precieuses' belonging to the IIL and INA were retrieved, presumably from the Secretariat of the Indian Independence League at 76, rue Paul Blanchy (presently Hai Ba Trung). "'Marchandises precieuses' in French could be Bose's war treasure. I do not know what happened to this treasure. I checked the files but I did not find any reference. I think the persons who retrieved it had simply shared it among themselves. That is why we could never find the treasure of Bose accumulated from the Indians of Southeast Asia to free India," said More.

ANDROID TIPS(What is ROOT?)

Root (ROOT), and Android users will often hear this word. There are many ideas about this topic on different sites. But today I try to present my basic ideas to you. Many Android devices do not know the exact answer to this question. Many people think that getting the perfect performance of the device is possible through the route, and so many are interested to root. But after the route, the performance of their device remains the same as before or worse than before. They are disappointed to see this situation. But it is unknown to them that where the real worth of root is. Today, because of my writing, why do you root in front of me, why, Try to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the route. And I think there will be no doubt about the route issue in your mind.

► What is the root of this?

╚ »The root word comes from the Linux operating system. Those Linux users who have root privilege or superuser permissions are called root users. In the simplest terms, the route is an administrator or administrator, although its Bangla means root roots. Root is a permit or permit. If this permission allows the user to do so on their own device. In the Windows operating system, the user administrator can not work with system files without Privilege, as well as the system administrations without the root permissions user, it is not possible to do Linux. The Linux-powered computer or the server has everything to do, We call him the root user. Many times we are also referred to as Super User.

► Where is the compatibility between Android and Linux?

╚ »You can ask questions about why I came up with Linux to talk about Android. Actually, Android has been built by Linux based operating system.

► We get very easy access to Linux, but we can not get it in Android?

╚ »Generally we can install the Linux operating system so that we know the user permissions code. But Android Mobile we buy from the market and its operating system system is the installer of the device. When the device manufacturer installs the operating system within the mobile, then the user gets the permissions code. And so we have that user permissions No Now your question may come as to why this user is not given the permissions code. Actually the device manufacturer does not provide us with this code for the protection and seamlessness of the mobile.
But it does not mean that we will not get the user permissions code. We can collect this code from device makers and get user permissions for end mobile phones. For example, I want to say Sony, When using Brand's brand like Lenovo, we collect bootloader unlock code on their website to get their user permissions. This bootloader is a part of unlocking root permissions.

► Even though the Android operating system is different, what are the different types of different mobile phones?

╚ »You might have wondered whether all of the other mobile-based companies are operating in different different looks. Although the core foundation of the operating system is one, different companies can organize or customize it individually. That's why Sony's Android device interface interface is rarely found in HTC's Android device interface.

► Why is not the root of the Android mobile?

╚ When mobile marketing companies are marketing their mobile phones, route permissions in mobile devices Not given. Because if you have got the root permit, you can do anything on your mobile. You can go to the root folder of the mobile (mobile operating system folder). You can delete any files, You can edit. When you have a permit on your mobile, you will not have to give a warning if you delete or remove any files. You may think that these files will not come to you anymore, so you have deleted the files. Maybe you have brike the phone by default while trying to customize or install ROM. After a while you could see that your mobile is not running anymore. You will then blame someone who created your mobile. If you do not have the root, you can not find the files you deleted because of the delete files. Phone makers give you many opportunities, but they do not give these permissions to them. This is done for your good.

► Why do you root your Android device?

╚ »If you are thinking of root then when your mobile is not able to use all kinds of opportunities, Your mobile phone is bound to a limit. Those who do not know anything about this new thing, they will decide on their mobile route after a while. Because of that you have to first understand why you would like to root, and after the route you really do not benefit. Many did not understand the root of many problems. So I'm asking them to do your mobile route carefully.
We actually make Android mobile routes for a lot of reasons. Currently some applications are out of date which require root permit to use. Some have rooted to increase the speed of mobile by overclocking. Some developers use different custom ROMs to create, For anyone playing games. There are many other reasons why the root is done. Because of these reasons, I think the route to the root is very good. But I do not think there is any need to be in danger due to the non-destructive route. Routing

facilities

╚ »Use of various applications to keep mobile phone unused files, temporal files, etc. regularly to delete the speed of the phone. There are many ways that mobile performance can be increased. The overclocking CPU speed works more quickly than it normally does. This can be done if you need to speed up the processor speed in a particular task. When the mobile is still there, Then the CPU does not work unnecessarily for which its ability to reduce its ability to underclock. It is possible to increase the battery backup. There is also a convenient way to install custom ROMs on the route. Many developers have created custom ROMs for various popular mobile phones. By installing these ROMs you can give your mobile a whole new set. You can use your software to increase your RAM's speed, increase the speed of the processor, but you can not raise any hardware or anything else. You can not do 16 megapixels for 8 megapixel camera The mobile phone does not have NFC, it can not connect. The route will work only on your internal performance, There is no external change.

Some Difficulties to Root

╚ »Your Warranty will be canceled with the first mobile route. So be careful before routing. Of course, many mobile phones can be re-unirooted. And if the mobile is unrotected then the technicians at the service center can not find the time that the set was rooted. But it is compulsory to catch a custom ROM. Many have said a lot about mobile briak Now what is the meaning of brick? Brick money brick And the phone brick means that your device is converted or broken into a brick. That means your mobile has lost the ability to work. There may be permanent or temporary problems on the phone if there is an error in the routing and subsequent tasks. The manufacturer company gives the phone an unutilized phone so that there is no harm to your mobile. By routing you are breaking that guarantee. Now its complete You have to accept responsibility. Root can be seen that many harmful programs can take control of rooted devices. But when the user is not logged in, he does not get root access, so other programs are not likely to get root access.

GAME REVIEW (Sidewords)

Sidewords ($2.99) by Milkbag Games is an original title that is part word game and part logic puzzle. If you enjoyed recent titles like TypeShift and Antitype, then you will love what Sidewords brings to the table.

As someone who makes a living off of writing, I have a soft spot for word games. Even though I always got beat pretty badly in Words with Friends, I still liked to play it just for the fun of it. I’ve also acquired many other word games over the years, including some favorites like Letterpress and Capitals. But in an oversaturated App Store, most word games end up being Scrabble or Boggle clones, which gets tiring. So when Sidewords hit the App Store this week, I became intrigued and had to give it a try myself. Needless to say, it’s one of the more unique offerings out there and does not disappoint.

LONDON: India have the chance to alter the course of cricket history when they face hosts England in the Women's World Cup final at Lord's on Sunday. Since the tournament's inception in 1973 - two years before the men's World Cup started - it has been dominated by England and Australia, with New Zealand, in 2000, the only other country to have won the event.

The final sees this year's edition come full circle, with India having upset the form book to beat England by 35 runs in the tournament opener in Derby on June 24.

"It isn't going to be easy for England," promised India captain Mithali Raj after her side's stunning semi-final win over six-times champions Australia in Derby on Thursday.
